Visiting Organists from USA play the Puget Organ
In November, 2017, Deputy Principal Elizabeth Clark welcomed 30 members of the American Guild of Organists who were on a 14-day tour organised by Pipedreams USA (www.pipedreams.org) The tour was led by Michael Barone, a well-known radio presenter and organ expert and included visits to organs in Los Angeles, Melbourne and Sydney. Their guide in Sydney was Robert Ampt, Sydney Town Hall organist, accompanied by his wife, Amy Johansen, organist at Sydney University.
Pastor de Lasala, curator of the 1890 Puget organ, prepared a special recital programme for the visitors to highlight the wonderful tonal palette of the 1890 Puget organ. Among the composers chosen were Théodore Salomé and César Franc, two notable 19th century Parisian organists. Afterwards, there was open console to allow all the visitors an opportunity to play our unique instrument, and they were not disappointed.
Chapel Society members were on hand to distribute gift bags containing brochures of the School Chapel, the organ and a CD. All were delighted to visit the Chapel and many said how much they had enjoyed the very warmest welcome of their entire tour. It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors to KRB and, all the more so, since it is exemplary in fulfilling the conditions of state government heritage funding which stipulates that public access must be made possible.
