"Roger Woodward  Benefit Concert"

Review of the Recital by Roger Woordward on 23 June, 2007 at Kincoppal Rose-Bay School of the Sacred-Heart,
by Ann Henderson.

On Saturday evening, 23 June, 2007, internationally renowned Australian pianist Roger Woodward, now resident in San Francisco, gave a gala recital in the Chapel to benefit jointly the Puget organ restoration and The Curran Foundation for St Vincent’s Hospital. Trish Burns, Executive Director of The Curran Foundation, and I had been preparing for this evening for almost one year. After a welcome cocktail party, over 300 people filled the Chapel and even the tribune. All of us were enthralled by a virtuoso performance of Chopin, Mozart, Debussy and Bach with a beautiful Chopin Nocturne as an encore.

How this came about is worthy of explanation. Roger Woodward offered a benefit recital for charity to his friends, Dr Mario and Judy Adamo, who nominated The Curran Foundation and then, through Trish Burns, The Chapel Society. This meant that two very worthy causes were the beneficiaries of his magnificent generosity. As a tribute, we have dedicated one of the special musically engraved pipes to Roger Woodward as a lasting memento of this wonderful evening with our gratitude and thanks.
