Michel Colin

Michel Colin is the titulaire of The Grand Organ (1986) built

Michel COLIN was born in Picardy. After studying piano following a
first prize in the Musica competition in Reims in 1983, he began the
violin and simultaneously read for a musicology degree at the Sorbonne.
He studied organ with André Fleury and then with Françoise
Renet at the Marcel Dupré school in Meudon where he obtained
a gold medal in 1986. He undertook postgraduate studies in 1987 and
finally studied with Odile Pierre the National Conservatoire in Paris
where he obtained a gold medal in 1988.
He served as organist the parish churches of St-Denis and the Redemption
in Paris from 1982 – 1989 after which he was appointed organist
at Meaux Cathedral from 1987 – 1989. In 1989 he was appointed
titular organist of the important Yves Cabourdin organ at Notre-Dame
de la Victoire at St Raphaël.
He has worked as accompanist for singing and instrumental classes
at the St Raphaël Conservatorium from 1989 – 1994. He has
held a number of posts as organ and piano teacher: the Conservatorium
and Music School at Sanary (1992 -1993), St-Cyr-sur-Mer (1995 –
2001) and St Raphaël (1989 – 2001).
He is currently harpsichord professor in Hyères, a position
he gained in 1995 after a competition, and professor in organ at La
Valette-du-Var since 1999. He completed a total of six years training
in organ building in Paris with Jacques Barberis and with Yves Cabourdin
in Carcès.
He has a longtime interest in historic keyboard instruments and French
heritage. He is a collector and is an advocate of historic performance
practice on historic instruments. In addition to having written a
number of papers in music magazines, he actively supports numerous
organ societies both locally and nationally, and participates in many
regional and national organ festivals.
Michel COLIN is a professional organ consultant with the Department
of Music, Dance, Theatre and Spectacles with the Ministry of Culture.
He is consultant for organ building and restoration in the Principality
of Monaco.
He has performed as soloist and other musical combinations, including
choir and orchestra, in almost 500 occasions in all musical styles
in ten European countries, North America and North Africa.
Michel COLIN has recorded numerous CDs for France Musique, USA, EMA,
Harmonia Mundi and Plein-Jeu.
